Start Choosing My Adventure!

Airplane

Hey there!

Today is a very exciting day. You get to start choosing my adventure! Yup! It’s all up to you. I finish University this week, and then my decisions become yours.

I fly into Gatwick, London on August 20th (arriving Tuesday the 21st). And then, well… I’m waiting, ha ha. Where should I stay that first night?

Logistically, I think we should keep a 10 day lead on traveling itineraries so there’s time to book hostels / find people to stay with on couchsurfing.com / etc. I don’t want to have to sleep in an airport. Ok, actually that would probably be really fun, but not on a regular basis. Anyway. The day to day stuff can happen on the fly. If we can find cool people for me to stay with (for free), it will free up more money for me to do the fun things you want me to… like heading over to Ireland and having my first Guinness there… or whatever.

My budget for the trip is $5000 – $70 Canadian per day for the 70 days I’m abroad. It’s certainly doable. I am going to have a Eurail pass for the majority of that time which should cover the cost of transportation, but I have no idea if there are “reservation fees” or whatever associated with that. Let’s hope not.

So if you have any ideas, leave them in the comments!. This is going to be a lot of fun!

Any plans to come to the States or will you soley travel within the UK and Europe? Go to Greece!

If you do come to the States, you have a free place to stay in San Diego :)

The first leg of the trip is in Europe. I’m going to stay there until October, which will be a small but good amount of time to briefly explore the countries.

Then I’m heading to New Zealand and then Australia. I’m going to have to find a job while I’m down there, so you’ll get to choose what it is. When you get bored, can also choose when and how I leave… ha ha

I think eventually I’ll make my way down to the US, and if I head to SD, I will certainly take you up on your offer! But it’s not up to me… you’ll have to convince the website to let me :D

Cheers,

Jeremy

Great job on the business plan presentation. I wish you all the best and good luck with the project. I think you should do something entertaining like to go octoberfest or the bull parade thing in Europe.

All the best buddy,

Derek Kremer

Cool idea Jeremy, good luck with it.

While in London make sure to have a Vindaloo curry at an Indian restaurant, have a Caipirinha at the Guanabara club, swim in the Serpentine in Hyde Park and kiss a female police constable.

@ Derek: Cheers dude, I really appreciate it. I’ll be sure to drink one of those really big beers at Octoberfest for ya, ha ha.

@David: Ha ha wow. Thanks for the ideas… Do they have female versions of those red-coated fuzzy hat people?

When in Spain, cross over to Ibiza and visit Café del Mar, a bar located in San Antonio, Ibiza. It is a popular summer tourist destination, noted for its view of the local sunset. Café del Mar is the original “the sunset bar” in San Antonio opened by Ramón Guiral, Carlos Andrea, and José Les in 1978. See http://cafedelmar.tuportal.com/index_eng.html

In London make sure you go see a show/musical. We saw Queen’s We Will Rock You and it was amazing. I also enjoyed the London Eye and Hyde Park. All the best!

Hey Jeremy,
Sachi found a hostel in London before we left on our trip - we didn’t go, but it looks cool:

Here’s a newly renovated hostel in London near Paddington Station with rave reviews. about 25 pounds per person per night for a double bed private room with private bathroom. Right now, that’s about 44 USD pp. http://www.travelstay.com/pages/WakeUpLondon.htm

Well you’ve missed the Running of the Bulls but Beerfest is a must do if you know what’s bad for you. Pretty debaucherous. I’d suggest heading to the Hofbrauhaus tent (try to find some sort of David Hasselhoff t-shirt to wear) and wander into the ‘pigpen’ if you fancy living life on the edge.

Before that though get yourself to Bunol (near Valencia in Spain) for La Tomatina to get your clothes ripped off in masses of tomato-drenched crazies.

Wicked idea for a site, by the way. I had something in mind for my trip in 2008 but ya beat me to it. Damn you!!

Ha ha! Thanks for those suggestions Duncan and Gail. I’ll be sure to write them down so when I’m there, people can vote. Maybe I’ll do that now.

Lee, it’s probably time I book a few hostels so I’ll cross my fingers and hope that one is available.

Wow! La Tomatina is something I have always wanted to do. It seems that every hostel in that area is already booked, but I’m sure I could somehow manage to find my way there. Any idea what I could do with my computer?

You MUST go to Salema, Portugal (in the Algarve Region). The most beautiful town in the world. You can visit with Romeo in the grocery store or Bernard at the bar - or mingle with the locals who have never left the village in their lives. A pint of beer is 1 euro 50. Have the swordfish at Atlantico.

You will not regret it. One of the last undeveloped little fishing villages in all of Portugal.
