I always feel bad at Christmas when I get presents. I don’t know why - I just feel guilty. But this year I received a really cool present that is going to make blogging way easier… a digital voice recorder. So when I am walking around and come up with an idea to write about, I can just record it. It sounds really trivial, but I always think of things during the day and by the time I get home I never remember what they are - and now I will no longer have that problem. Thanks mom! There’s been a lot of talk in the blogging world about the whole “Five Random Facts” thing that has been going around. Here is a post summarizing it:Personally, I don’t care if it was some publicity stunt. When I was reading entries on peoples’ blogs, I never knew about the guy who started it all. I just saw the posts on peoples’ sites and learned a little about them. To me, at least, it was a cool idea that spread around the blogging world and got people talking. I certainly am not holding anything against the mastermind behind it all. Anyway, those were my two cents.I just wrote a New Years post that will appear on New Years. Celebration!Happy New Years! Talk to you in January!

Five (5) Things About Me
December 26th, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
Hello Jeremy, I discovered a viral blog game which you may already know (or not). Read my post if you want :Players (bloggers) write five things about themselves not widely known, andthen “tags” five other people to continue the chain. And guess what, you’ve been tagged !Cheers,RomainHmmm. Five things about me? Well…
- I am adopted.
- I am a dual-citizen (New Zealand and Canada).
- I always wear bright coloured shoelaces. Right now I have bright red on one pair, and neon green on another.
- I love stationary and going to book stores, but I never, ever buy books or stationary.
- I am very fickle and judge people very heavily on my first impression (I know – it’s terrible).
…And I am passing the torch to…
Happy Christmas Everyone!
December 25th, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
’tis the season to eat copious amounts of food, spend time with the family, and sleep… and if you are me, find a gym and StairMaster because you feel guilty for all of the above, ha ha.I hope the holidays are treating you all well. Finding a computer to blog from is becoming increasingly difficult, so I have a feeling that this may be my last post until January. I hope to see you all in the new year. T-Minus 9 days - not too far away.I’m really looking forward to the updated and improved jeremydavid.com that is being released on January 3rd. If you have any ideas for improvements, please send them my way!Cheers!
Christmas Shopping is Out of Control!
December 23rd, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
I decided to leave all of my Christmas shopping to the last minute, which was a really bad decision. People are crazy! Seriously nuts. I am so glad that I wasn’t driving today, even though taking the bus cost $3.25!I am worried that I may not be able to update this site too frequently over the holidays as the Library closes tomorrow for a week and the only computer I have access to is being taken to Hawaii (without me). GRRR.I do have some good news about this site though! On January 3rd I am releasing the new version of it. It will be the same “choose my adventure” idea but more interactive, I’ll go on more adventures… and I’m really excited about it! Stay tuned, errr, reading? Whatever. It will be worth the wait!I’ll update you on the progress of my acts of kindness:
- Plug expired parking meters.Check!
- Be a dog walker for the SPCAAttempted, but failed
- Buy a nice gift and card for the cleaning person in your schoolYup! Bought two boxes of After Eights and left them in my office, nicely wrapped!
- Take some one you know doesn’t have many friends out for coffee/teaHa ha sort of mean, but complete!
- Buy a homeless person breakfastYup! They really appreciated it, and it was very rewarding to do!
- Put together a healthy meal hamper of non-perishables.Yah!
- Buy a pack of 12 xmas cards, write motivational and kind things on the inside, and hand them out to complete strangersCompleted!
- Give flowers to a random person. My favorite deed so far!
- Go through the drive through buy something small, but pay for the people behind you’s meal.I don’t have a car, but I went inside McDonalds and bought two McFlurreys and asked the person to give them to someone in the drive through. Sort of fun!
- Bake some Holiday treats for someone you care about. And I ate some of them myself!
- Go for a walk downtown with $10 in loonies in your pocket and give $1 to each homeless person you see until you run out of money.Complete!
So that leaves: Help out at a soup kitchen or shelter. Hmmm, I hope I can pull this off! And yes, I’m still going to try to make that SPCA thing work out… maybe I’ll go to the Vancouver SPCA and walk with another group.
No Dog Walking For Me :(
December 22nd, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
Good Morning! Sorry for not posting yesterday. I’m in Vancouver right now and do not have access to a computer. Well, I guess since I am on a computer it may seem like I am lying - but I had to walk 40 minutes up a giant hill to my Mom’s house to use it (I am staying at my Dad’s house over the holidays, I do not have a car, and he does not have a computer)… so it certainly is making life interesting for me. I’m tempted to buy a laptop sooner rather than later.Thank you all very much for your comments! I will not be able to respond to them for a few days, but tomorrow I am going to go to the library and use their computer and spend a few hours responding to everything you’ve said. In terms of my Twelve Acts of Holiday Kindness, I was unfortunately unable to walk dogs! I got up at 7:00 AM, took a bus to the SPCA, and they told me that I couldn’t walk dogs until I underwent training… which isn’t available until January. GRRR! Oh well, I’m going to do something to make it work.I have to end this post now and do my Christmas Shopping, but I post again tomorrow.Happy Christmas everyone!
A Star Wars Christmas
December 20th, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
Yesterday at work we were going to have have a quasi celebration, celebrating our last day of work before the new year… but things sort of fell apart. I brought crème de menth and cookies, Susan brought some caramel Baileys, but we ultimately decided that it probably wasn’t the best idea to drink at work. So we didn’t. Instead, we watched A Star Wars Christmas (a TV movie from the 1970s) and it happened to be the worst movie I have ever seen. If you ever have the opportunity to see it, do. The first 20 minutes features Chewbacca’s family speaking in their groaning language and there are no subtitles. It’s very, very bizarre. And the actual cast from the Star Wars trilogy is in the movie, which is fantastic. I bet Harrison Ford bought the rights to the movie and that’s why it is never played on TV… that or the movie is so bad no network will air it.
I saw the new James Bond movie last night. It was terrible, long, and entertaining; however, the guy sitting in front of me was the best part and single handedly stole the show. He “shushed” just about everyone in the theater and exhibited some serious Theater Rage when he stood up and gave someone the middle finger when they ignored his “Shhhh”… I swear it wasn’t me who kept talking…
Today I’m going to try to walk dogs for the SPCA. I’m getting up very early to catch a bus so I can be there on time. Lets see how it goes.
I am going back to Vancouver for Christmas and I will not have access to a computer for a while. I guess I’ll have to head to the Library to update my site. So if a post is late, please don’t hate me!
Choose My Haircut 2

Choose My Adventure Haiku
Starting in Augustyou will tell me where to go;tell me what to do.
I have a feeling that this year is going to be the best year of my life. I finish University, and begin my adventures. I’ll meet hundreds of cool people, sleep on random couches all over the world, and will allow people like you to direct my life. It’s going to be very exciting!
As many of you are probably aware, I am currently fulfilling the Twelve Holiday Acts of Kindness suggested and voted on by visitors to this site. Unfortunately, after I have completed my obligations, I am never going to do anything nice for anyone ever again.Ha ha ok, I’m being a little facetious, but making cookies for my coworkers was disastrous. I burnt one batch terribly causing the smoke alarm to go off and me to collapse in faux tears beside the oven; I dropped the second batch of them on my kitchen floor and had to void the five second rule because my roommates are disgusting (just kidding guys, we’re all disgusting); I forgot to buy chocolates for the cleaning staff at my school and had to walk to the store twice. GRRRRRRR. Being nice is so much work. I now understand why everyone is so grouchy and mean during the holidays.Oh, it’s time for you to choose another haircut! Weee! The choices are:
- Chunky Spiky
- Crew Cut / Flat Top Hybrid
- Funky Parted
Let the games begin!
Road Rage and Ferry Rides
December 18th, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
Sorry about the late post! I accidentally clicked “private”, which stopped this post from being published. Like most weekends, this one was fairly eventful.Friday’s Act of Kindness was to “take some one you know doesn’t have many friends out for coffee/tea,” and while at first glance it sounds like a really nice idea, it’s actually very, very mean. Of all of the activities I get to do, this one is by far the worst. It makes me think of high school and the popular girls “being nice” and taking the “loser” girl out shopping for new clothes and trying to help her climb the social ladder. The problem stems from the fact that everything I do goes on this website, and many of my friends read this site… so when I take a friend out for coffee and they come home and read my blog, the realize that I think they are a loser and have no friends. Sucks to be them, sucks to be me.The funny thing is that on Thursday (at my Student Society staff party), one of my colleagues said “I’m surprised I was elected because I have no friends.” I told him that he just earned himself free coffee. At least he gets something out of it, right? Ha ha. I got to tell that same story on CBC Radio All Points West on Friday afternoon, which was fantastic. I love the radio, and getting to talk to them is always a lot of fun.I had to take a ferry to Vancouver for my Grandad’s 80th birthday party, which sucks because the trip is about 6 hours door to door. But I’m glad I went. This weekends tasks were giving ten homeless people each a dollar, and plugging parking meters. I had a really weird experience on my trip home. My dad drove me to the bus station downtown, and on the way there was this van driving along the shoulder of the road. There was a silver Mercedes in front of it honking like there was no tomorrow, and then suddenly the shouldered car’s driver opened the door, jumped out, ran up to the Mercedes, and starting pounding on the windows with his fists and screaming “STOP HONKING! #&*@&#*&$@#!!!!”The driver of the Mercedes seemed understandably alarmed (although I have no idea why he was honking), and accelerated… into the back of another car. The whole situation was unbelievably intense and I have no idea what was going on. It was certainly interesting to watch. People are so grumpy this time of year! I wish I could have plugged their parking meters, ha ha ha.
Fancy Food Bank!
December 14th, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
I am going to apologize in advance for this short post. I am getting ready to head out on a pubcrawl, so I have about 5 minutes to write it. I decided that I would not be able to articulate today’s Holiday Act of Kindness post pubcrawl.Today I “put together a healthy meal hamper of non-perishables from the grocery store and donate it to [my] local foodbank… and know that [I was] helping feed a needy family over the holidays”. Unfortunately, my $10 didn’t go too far. I bought some organic Thai red rice and a really nice Thai Red Curry sauce… and that’s it. I am confident the family that receives the food will enjoy it.The Student Society where I work has a food bank, so I left it there. Of all the services we provide to students, the this is the one I am most proud of. It is sad that people need to use this service, but I am happy we are able to provide it.Keep the comments coming! I really like hearing from you.
Flowers from me to you!
December 13th, 2006 — Choose My Adventure
Give Flowers to a Random Person
Today I gave flowers to a random person. I found some really pretty yellow ones, bought them, and walked around downtown. I told myself I would give them to the first person who smiled at me. Surprisingly, it took a very long time to find someone. I have this habit of smiling at everyone I see, and I was disappointed that over 20 people walked past me without smiling. Our world is so grumpy.
“Hey there! Here you go! Thank you for smiling.”“Oh. Wow! Thank you very much. You just made my day a lot better. Thank you! I really needed these.”
The woman I gave the flowers to looked so happy. I decided not to take a picture because I didn’t want her to feel awkward at all. Buying flowers and giving them away was one of the most satisfying things I have done in a while. It is shocking that something so simple can have such a profound effect. I am glad I was able to do this, and am excited I have 11 more of these acts to fulfill!
Keep me up to date with your progress!
