A Blogging Conference?

Sweet! It looks like I am heading to northern voice, a blogging conference in Vancouver, Canada. Hopefully it will make a better blogger, so you can enjoy my adventures more. And don’t worry. You can send me camping another weekend - if you want to.

This weekend I am heading to Gabriola Island for some good times. Expect a video or comicesque picture thing when I return. Ew. Their website is terrible. It even says frames in the url. Blech.

Anyway. Lets hope the island is better than the website.

Today is the UVSS AGM! Students get to ask us questions, make us do things… Elections have already started to get messy. Ahhhh why do I do this to myself!??!?!

My Big Fat Gay Weekend!

dancing at Plan B in Victoria

I’m going to keep going on my own adventures until people start making suggestions. Oh, by the by… Rex - I’m going on a skiing/snowboarding trip as per your suggestion!

This weekend was pretty intense. On Friday my friends Morgan, Emily, Marina and Alifa were going out dancing to Plan B (the worst name for a club, ever) and invited me along… and since I had nothing else on the burners, I joined them. I hate hip-hop club music, but the light up dance floor made up for it. Sort of. Anyway, part way though the night we got bored of the music and peaced out – to the local gay club (appropriately named PRISM).

I don’t have many gay friends in Victoria, but coincidently, two of them were at the club… dancing it up in their popular circle. If you haven’t been to a gay club before, they are trashy. Very trashy, but on some strange level that is sort of what gives them their appeal. Before this weekend, I only had been to PRISM 3 times. Friday night was number four. My group of friends and I had a decent time (the good connotation of the word - not the ho hum it has evolved into), and peaced out just before 2.

The next day my friend Phil (my gay friend) gave me a call and told me they were all going out again (Saturday) and wanted me to come along. Because I collect friends, I thought this would be an ideal opportunity to climb the social ladder and become even more popular. Ha ha ha ha ha. Just kidding. I was, however, excited to meet some new people and go on a big gay adventure. So I did. That evening I bought my standard bottle of wine and grabbed some sushi to go. Well, attempted to. The restaurant was closed so in a huff I walked across the street to A&W. I hadn’t eaten fast food in at least 6 months. I waited in line for twenty minutes to buy two teen burgers! Sans mayonnaise and bacon, of course. Frustrated, burgers in hand, I stole a colossal A&W mug on my way out. It was gargantuan. Later that night I explored its capacity by filling it up with my entire bottle of wine, and drank it through a straw. How glamorous.

Half way through my mug slash bottle of wine the people I was with decided they wanted to go to the liquor store and McDonalds (don’t worry, one us of was a designated driver)… I decided not to pour out my wine rootbeer and continued drinking it in the car. And McDonalds. And I ate chicken McNuggets. And I threw up. How glamorous.

The rest of the night was pretty fun. I got to meet some new people, go on a random adventure… and I hope to hang out with them again. Awesomeness to the power of eight!

In two weeks should I go camping in Tofino (a small surfing village), or go to a blogging conference in Vancouver?

  • Blogging conference - get popular and better at blogging… you bad blogger… (57%)
  • Tofino! Camp it up! (43%)

I am a paper mache Conehead

SNLPARTY

Here is a picture that perfectly conceptualizes my SNL party. As you probably can tell, I did not dress up as one of the ambiguously gay duo. Why didn’t I? Another group reserved the costume idea. Apparently, I need to brush up on party etiquette before I put a poll on a website asking people to vote on my costume. Oops! The party was certainly an interesting experience. Nothing too drunken happened. Good times had by all.Making a paper mache hat was pretty intense: I did the good old inflate balloon, cover in paper thing, and it seemed to work out. Well, if you consider having a bulbous head that looks nothing like a Conehead working out. Anyway. Here is the recipe for paper mache:

Mix white glue and water; dip strips of paper in said mix; cover balloon with dipped strips; paint.

The new site is almost ready to be launched. I expect it to be all done tomorrow!

All right! Here are the costume choices. If you have any other ideas, feel free to add them! Let’s hope this works. I’m at a conference this weekend, so I’ll check my email Sunday night. If there are any problems, I’ll try to fix them when I get home.{democracy:7}*If for some reason I am unable to get the costume that wins, I will choose the second highest on the list.

Choose My Costume Adventure

Next Friday (January 26th) I am going to a Saturday Night Live themed party. Choose my costume with this form, or leave ideas in the comments!

Cars suck.

I recently inherited car, and at first I thought having a car would be cool… but I was wrong. Cars suck.First I had to go get the car insured. Since I have never had an accident, insurance was affordable (about $80 / month with a lot of coverage). After going to the insurance place I went to start the car, and it didn’t. So I called BCAA and they jump started it for me. I waited 45 minutes, then went to drive way. The car turned off, and didn’t start again. I had to call BCAA a second time. The car was towed to a repair place and I found out the alternator was broken and I might have to replace the battery as well. I recently inherited $500 in debt. Here is why cars suck:

  1. You have to insure them
  2. You have to fix them
  3. You have to pay for gas
  4. You have to park
  5. You have to drive in heavy traffic
  6. They make you lazy

Here is why not having a car does not suck

  1. You save a lot of money
  2. You get exercise (I’ve biked over 2000KM since the start of summer)
  3. Often bicycling places works out to be the same time as driving
  4. You don’t need to park or worry about traffic

Cars are evil! However, this weekend I should have my car all ready to go, so I should use it to its full potential and go on an adventure. Leave me some suggestions!

Alien(s) Movie Marathon

DSC01410 DSC01428

On Saturday I watched all five Alien(s) movies: Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and Alien Vs. Predator. It was terrible, and took over 11 hours. I think the most exercise I got all day was searching through my backpack for my cellphone – or walking to the kitchen to make some pasta. Ha ha, at least I dragged one of my friends down with me.I thought I would take this opportunity to review each movie. Alien was a good movie – it always makes me laugh that all old sci-fi movies envisioned technology in the future being big and bulky. Aliens was actioned packed and intense. Alien 3 was boring. Alien resurrection was good up until the end, and then it got terrible. Alien Vs. Predator didn’t make any sense.I need a new adventure for this weekend. Perhaps I should take rock climbing lesions lessons? Or embark on a journey involving a car (I’ll update you on my car adventure tomorrow). Whatever you want. I’ll take suggestions today and tomorrow, and then on Wednesday there will be a vote. Feel free to leave ideas in the comments, or use the suggestion form on the left hand side of this page.Cheers,Jeremy

New Years Celebration!

Video Link

Hey there. Unfortunately, I do not think a transcript of this video would be that interesting… so if you are interested in my New Years adventures, I recommend you watch the video. I am going to finish updating this site tomorrow. Sorry for the delays! There is a third contestant in the Choose My Movie Marathon: the Alien(s) movies. Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and Alien vs Predator. Personally, I wouldn’t consider Alien vs. Predator part of the Alien series… but it is such a horrible movie that I thought it would be worth it to throw it in there - for kicks. I’m currious to see if the numbers change.I have a To Whom It May Concern video ready for tomorrow… see you then! And remember, if you ever have ideas for adventures please contact me!

Jeremy David 2.0!

Happy New Years and Welcome to Version 2 of the new JeremyDavid.com, which actually means this is the sixteenth or seventeenth incarnation of this site.As a little teaser for tomorrow’s New Years recap, here is a picture (see video) I had taken with a mob of children roaming around Harrison Hot Springs close to midnight on new years eve. There were about 40 kids hiding in bushes and creeping around… the whole situation was a little disturbing to be quite honest, but at least I got a picture to capture the moment. To all of the new visitors watching this video, thanks! This blog gives you the opportunity to make suggestions and vote on my life. A choose your own adventure of sorts, where you choose my adventures. In August I am embarking on a year long journey around the world… so far I have been sent to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. While I’m there, you will tell me where to go and what to do… I’m pretty excited about it.Up until my departure date I will be producing a daily video blog, and will be embarking on smaller scare weekend adventures, which, of course, you will be voting on. So what is the first adventure of 2007? An epic movie marathon of your choosing: either all three extended lord of the rings films, or the entire 6 episodes of the Star Wars saga. I’m sure whatever you choose will lead to an intense 12 or 14 hours of movie greatness. *shudder*I’m certainly looking forward to the future adventures you will send me on. Check back tomorrow for the rest of my new years celebration.

Happy New Years!

Happy New Years! This year I have two New Years Resolutions that I am going to share with you. I want to get a six-pack, and I want to substantially improve this site.

  1. I resolve to get a six-pack.This resolution is going to take some work. It will entail:
    • Continuing my cardio every morning
    • Adding weight training to the equation
    • Cutting out all junk food (deep fried foods, muffins, candy, etc.) for at least a month
  2. I resolve to improve this website. On January 3rd I am releasing the new layout. I am going to make the site more interactive, go on more adventures, and add more features that will be revealed in a few days.

What are your resolutions? Think you will be able to fulfill them?
