The V-WORD post elicited some interesting comments:
Rex: Jeremy, you have great ambitions however…I will bet $20 that you cannot go V-WORDtarian (abstain from consuming any form of meat) for 30 days be it now or while on your trip. What do you say?
Cheers,
Rex
Jeremy: $20 ‘eh? Am I allowed to eat eggs / milk? I’m intrigued…
Rex: Eggs and milk allowed. I will even give you the $20 before the challenge begins and rely on the honor system. If make it 30 days you keep the $, if not, you give the $20 back. Do you have a PayPal account?
Cheers,
Rex
Obviously I can’t do this without the green light. But I am intrigued. Being a vegetarian (especially going vegan) while backpacking would probably be a terrible idea. But I’m not leaving for a while. Should I try it now? (Oh, and I am going to assume that fish is included in the “meat” category… but you can correct me if I am mistaken). Choose my adventure!

May 6th, 2007 — Choose My Adventure

This week has certainly been a busy one.
Last week, as this picture so masterfully describes, was my faux-wedding. In preparation for the big day I grew a disgusting, I mean wonderful beard that I shaved into a mustache. The night before three of my friends threw me a little stag party and, like most of my drunken adventures, I ended up karaoke-ing Total Eclipse of the Heart. Trenton and Andrew (they are in the picture below this) performed a wonderful interpretive dance while Susan (in the skating picture) and I belted it out. I tried to sing Private Dancer, but the DJ wouldn’t let me. Funn with an extra “n”.
The next day was the happiest day of my life. It was like Disneyland. All of my friends willing to dress up in 80s garb were there, and we had a terrific time. At one point the local band Hank and Lilly showed up and serenaded me and my false wife. It was beautiful.
In the course of the evening I learned two fantastic drinking games:
1. Quarters Chase.
- People sit around a table with two cups at opposite ends.
- If a cup is in front of you, you have to bounce a quarter into it.
- When you get the quarter in, you pass the cup (and quarter) left.
- If you get the quarter in on the first time, you pass the cup to anyone (including stacking it).
- When one cup catches up with the other one (whether a person is slow or someone gets the quarter in on the first time and stacks it) the person passing the cup has to slam their cup down into the other one. If successful, the person with the two cups has to pile the two cups end to end and try to bounce the quarter into the top one. If they get it in, they can make anyone drink. If they miss, they have to drink.
- The person to the drinker’s left takes the cup and starts bouncing while the drinker drinks for an agreed-upon time. We say “take five drinks”… whatever that means.
It’s an amazingly fun game and I will put up some pictures to explain it better… eventually…
2. Spoons
- Pull out “four of a kind” equal to the number of people playing. Ex: 3 people, have AAAA, KKKK, QQQQ… I would suggest playing with more than 3 people though – it’s more fun.
- Put one spoon in the center for each person in the group, minus one. Ex: if there are 9 people playing, you pile 8 spoons.
- Everyone is dealt 4 random cards, and every second all players pass a card left. When a person has four of a kind they shout “SPOONS” and everyone tries to grab one. It can get pretty violent… and people get bruised and cut up by fingernails and grabbing. Good times!
- The person who does not end up with a spoon gets a letter “S, P, O, O, then N”. When someone loses 5 times (and has all the letters) they have to perform some task that is arranged before hand. I ran away before they made the loser lick my face.
Another really fun game.
I finally understand why people have themed weddings: they are epic. I hope yours is as incredible as mine was.

So I think you all deserve some more explanation about the beard. I was hoping to keep it a surprise for you, but I now have two opportunities… And obviously you get to choose which one I, well, choose.
The reason I am growing a beard is because I am having a fake wedding on Saturday, April 28th. That’s right, you read correctly: a fake wedding. A fake 80s wedding. Ceremony, reception, food, booze, bridesmaids, stag party. The whole works. And sticking with the 80s theme, my friends wanted me to grow a wicked stash. We were going to have a pre-wedding shaving session at the stag party in preparation for the big day. Bizarre, yes, but outstanding nonetheless.
Here’s the dilemma: I have been invited to participate in a promotional video for the University of Victoria. But to do that, I am going to have to shave off my beard. Do I have an awesome mustache at my fake wedding, or do I immortalize myself in some video? Choose:

How much money can a group of students make in ten days? My last semester at UVic - the Entrepreneurship module of the Business Program - gives me the opportunity to find out. Groups of 5 students, without spending more than $5.00 on capital, have 10 days to start a business and make as much money as they can. We’re allowed to use cameras, computers, etc. that we already own… but not much more.
I thought I would ask you “do you have any ideas?”. Can you think of a way for me to dominate this competition, and earn some money for my trip? I’m all ears.

Two three people gave suggestions: thanks guys!
It seems that this weekend I am either going to try to figure out some colossal prank, or participate in the Undie Run for Cancer at Uvic (which actually happens tonight).
On your marks… get set… VOTE!

Any Choose My Adventure ideas?
March 4th, 2007 — Choose My Adventure
This Thursday is my 22nd birthday! Celebration! What sort of exciting adventures shall I venture on? I have to work early on Friday on and host a radio show… I’m thinking I’ll do something low-key on the Thursday and party it up on the Saturday? But as always, it’s really up to you.
Is it tacky to plan your own birthday?

I got a $121 ticket for pulling an illegal u turn. It sucks! I’m a terrible driver, and things like this always make me regret having a car. Because getting the ticket was obviously my car’s fault.
So I’m putting the ball in your court. I was planning on selling my car in the Summer (before my trip)… but do you think I should sell my car now? It certainly would prevent me from getting more tickets, ha ha.
Should I sell my car now?
- Yes! Save your money! (63%)
- No! Being able to drive around is useful. (37%)

Ha ha no, I didn’t take that picture… but it is outstanding. I love digital SLRs (and talented photographers). Anyway, random tangent. Today was the first day of Northern Voice, and as you suggested and voted, I wore a dragon costume. Thanks! It certainly got me some attention. Let’s just hope it is the right kind, ha ha, and that people do not think I am insane. Well, I am sort of. But let’s keep that between you and me.
The conference is actually really cool. It is very exciting to see people from all over Canada and the US get together to talk about something they love. Too bad Robert Scoble wasn’t there yet. Oh well. Unfortunately (well, for you anyway) I’m not going to wear the costume two days in a row. That might be a little tacky. If you are ever looking for a way to break the ice with a few hundred people, consider wearing a costume to a blogging conference. It was a lot of fun.
Thanks again for visiting! If you have any ideas for future adventures, please leave them in the comments!

Someone suggested I bust out my old Dragon Costume and wear it to the conference.
What do you think? Should I make a fool of myself in front of 300 bloggers?
